The world-renowned teacher Swami Chinmayananda inspired him in the early eighties to take up a detailed study of the Vedanta (Upanishads). The master initiated him into sannyâsa (life of a monk) in 1992 and gave him his present name. He served the Chinmaya Mission in its various spiritual, cultural and educational projects for sixteen years (1986 – 2002). He taught two intensive residential courses at Mumbai, of the duration of two years each, and many students who received training in these are now monks and spiritual guides. He was the president of the research center – Chinmaya International Foundation – in Kochi for two years.

In Benares, he lives in the campus of the beautiful, sprawling campus of the Krishnamurti Foundation India (KFI) on the banks of Gang â. He is the Joint Secretary of the Rajghat Executive Committee in Varanasi that runs educational and rural service activities. Serving as the Director of KFI Rural Centre, he oversees education and health projects for the benefit of poor villagers in the neighborhood.

Born in 1957 in South India, he is fluent in three languages namely English, Kannada and Hindi. He loves Sanskrit too, which he enjoys teaching occasionally.
